Meghan

Hi! I'm Meghan. I worked in community mental health and child welfare for nearly a decade, which is part of what instilled my passion for building community.

I've been an avid reader since I found Harry Potter in second grade. Even though I firmly believe that J.K. Rowling is evil, she set the foundation for my love of reading and the community I found in fantasy worlds.

My journey into romance started in my teens with Sarah Dessen, and turned a little darker when I discovered Laurel K Hamilton and the Anita Blake series.

I was hesitant to start dark romance, but Tia got me started with 'Her Soul to Take' by Harley LaRoux. She won me over with 'He saves her cat' and now that's almost all I read.

My Favorite Tropes

Tropes can get cheesy, but there are a few that get me to squee and kick my feets EVERY TIME:

  • One horse

  • One bed

  • Hair washing

  • He falls first

  • Any time he calls her 'love'

  • When he begrudgingly becomes buddies with her acquired stray

  • Marriage of convenience

  • Found family (because of course)

Tropes That Give Me the Ick

Some of the tropes that make me roll my eyes or feel icky include:

  • Miscommunication (my life has had too much drama to enjoy watching other people suffer because of poor communication and stunted emotional growth)

  • Pregnancy (it's like having a kid in the sims after I had my daughter....I already do this in real life...and pregnancy usually means the character is benched from the cool battles, or loses her individual identity or whatever)

  • Jealous touch her and die....but I'm a slut for a Slade Ravinger touch her and die

  • Anything that portrays a clinical violation of boundaries. There will always be a power dynamic with your therapist or doctor or whatever....it's yucky.
